Would Drinking a Gallon of Water a Day Seriously Make You Healthier?
August 18, 2014

I read an article recently that talked about a woman who wasn’t in the best of health.  After discussing her various health problems with medical professionals, she decided to try drinking more water a day to see if that would improve her condition.  Her intake ended being roughly about 3 liters a day.  (3.7 liters equals a gallon.)

After a month the woman, who is 42 but complained to look like 52, saw many improvements in her overall health.  She says she had less indigestion problems and her kidneys appeared to be functioning better.  Her face complexion appeared to look better and the dark circles under her eyes went away.  She swore she saw many improvements after the four weeks.  (See the picture below.)

More water for a month

Well, I don’t doubt that she saw improvements in her health by increasing her water intake.  I think the photo above is suspect though.  The lighting is obviously different and any of these before and after photos you see nowadays in advertisements are probably manipulated in Photoshop.  So that part of this experiment fell flat for me.

However, what wasn’t talked about in the article was the quality of water she drank.  Was it just tap water or spring water?  I believe that drinking more water will definitely improve your health at some level.  But what if that water is tainted with chemicals, chlorine, chloramines, pesticides, heavy metals, and other contaminants?  What kind of damage will that do to your body over time if you drank almost a gallon of water a day?  I don’t know about you but my tap water sucks!  And where I used to live in Newport Beach – Corona del Mar, CA the tap water tasted so bad it was….  frankly disgusting.

So basically what I’m getting at here is that drinking more water is a good healthy idea.  You will definitely receive benefits from doing it.  However, you would be wise to make sure you are drinking filtered water because no one knows what the affects of drinking low quality contaminant ridden water will be over time.
